Some thoughts from the airport whilst I’m waiting to board.
Here I sit at an airport in South Africa, having this week just helped lead two of my family members to the Lord. “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Rom 10 vs 9
Let me say I was nervous, but just having lost several family members in my wife and my family recently, I have become increasingly aware that life is short, and I want my family living eternally alongside me in the New Jerusalem. We never know when our time is up, so it is important that we are made right with God through His son Jesus Christ.
In scripture we regularly see whole families coming to God, this should be normal. But under the Western strongholds of ‘not wanting to offend’, which really boils down to the fear of man, we often don’t reach out to those closest to us for fear of upsetting them. I often use fear as a bit of a barometer. The enemy sows fear to prevent us moving into the things of God. So therefore, whenever I feel fearful, I know God probably wants to do something because the enemy is trying to make me succumb to fear and not faith. So one person might get saved and then they never really end up revealing or sharing Christ with family who they have the greatest influence around because of fear.
What is the worst that can happen? They say no they don’t want to follow Christ. Then you at least know where they are at spiritually and can target your prayers accordingly.
(Right now, at the airport God gave me a word for the barista around “growing in governance and leading people.” A wave of fear came over me and I pushed through and gave it to him. He was exceptionally receptive and thanked me profusely for it. Turns out his name in Sotho means “Promise”. 2 Cor 1:20 – “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the Glory of God through us”)
Don’t forget Jesus is drawing people unto himself. These are his words, “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” – John 12 vs 32
So, if he is drawing them to himself begin to partner in prayer with him in what he is already doing. If you want to see family saved, begin to pray for them on a regular basis before you share the Gospel. And be brave in sharing it – Christ died for your sins, he was buried and on the third day he rose again thus defeating death for you, if you turn from your old way of doing things, believe what he did and start to do things His way you will be saved into eternity. It’s that simple, but carries great power!
